Digital responsibility (WP3)

WP3 seeks to understand the opportunities and challenges in integrating digital responsibility in classroom practices, and design strategies that enhance students’ understanding and responsible use of digital technologies.

WP 3 raises the following research questions:

i) What is students’ perception of digital responsibility?
ii) How can educators design educational strategies that enhance students’ responsible use of digital technologies?

WP3 will empower teachers and students to analyse and design strategies for safe use of the Internet. In line with PD, WP3 first aims at “understanding the problem” (Selwyn & Cumbo 2022) – why do students feel that school prepares them inadequately in terms of digital responsibility (cf. Gudmundsdottir et al. 2024). To meet this challenge, WP3 will start by mapping students’ understanding of what digital responsibility entails through student-led workshops. This will be done in collaboration with researchers and practitioners, where students co-design short (anonymous) open-ended surveys. Researchers, teachers and students will analyse the data from the surveys. Data from the survey results will be used to design interview guides to further map students’ needs in terms of digital responsibility. Practitioners and researchers will then design strategies for integrating digital responsibility in different learning scenarios. These strategies will be evaluated using video-observation and reflection logs. Teachers from Nordre Follo will directly contribute to research-based content through seminars at TE.

WP3 is led by Bård Ketil Engen(OsloMet) and Trude Petterson (USN)
