Using PD WP 4 aims to investigate how teachers can design for fostering awareness of digital inclusion. Digital inclusion can be viewed as part of digital responsibility, where digitally inclusive actions are digitally responsible actions.
The research questions raised are:
i) What are the current understandings and key themes regarding digital inclusion for students?
ii) How can educators design for fostering awareness of digital inclusion?
Digital inclusion is a broad term (Bishop et al. 2022) and there is need for synthesizing knowledge on inclusion with a specific focus related to digital empowerment in education. WP4 will conduct a systematic review of the to identify definitions and education-related activities in terms of digital inclusion. Following on from this, WP4 will investigate how to foster for digital inclusion through discussions with student councils at Nordre Follo schools, Tenk, student council at Hareskov school, Denmark and university schools in Helsinki. Drawing on the discussions and the review, educators will design strategies for digital inclusion. The strategies will be implemented and evaluated drawing on whole-classroom video-observations, in-situ interviews with students and screen-recordings of student’s digital practices.
WP leader are Tonje H. Giæver (OsloMet) and Anni Loukomies (University of Helsinki)
