Eli F. Jones

My BA is mainly motivated by my desire to create a bank of knowledge, which I can use and develop within the field of clothing design. I have chosen the to focus on costuming rather then fashion due to my main interest in building a character using clothes as a tool for understanding a personality on-screen. In the spring of 2017, I was given the opportunity to work with the costume designer Karen Gram, on director Harald Zwart’s movie The 12th Man. The experience gave me a greater understanding of the costume field and inspired me to write my BA on the issue of identity and power through costuming. In the practical parts of my dissertation, I highlighted four different characters in the movie, and presented my interpretation of the costume and the way in which the costume shows the audience their identity and state of power.
