Professor Rune Halvorsen has been invited to speak at the conference “Legal Development and Disability Rights,” which was organized by Wuhan University and Human Rights Institute and East-Lake Institute for Social Advancement on June 29. This conference was a side event of the UN Human Rights Council 47th Session. Professor Halvorsen has made a presentation titled “Developments in European Union Accessibility Law and Policy,” sharing insights on the historical evolution of disability legislation, particularly in the accessibility policy area, at the EU level. He has also pinpointed the achievements and limitations of EU disability and the role of non-government sectors playing in shaping EU disability policy and overall disability affairs. Other speakers, such as Ms. Cai Cai, the chief of Gender Equality and Social Inclusion Section, Social Development Division, United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific (ESCAP), have exchanged ideas on how Asia-Pacific countries have protected disability rights and promote full participation by adopting disability policy.
