On 20-22 September 2017, Helmholtz Association hosted two important RRI Practice events in Berlin: the third consortium meeting and two workshops.
Soeren Wiesenfeld, Head of the Research Section at the Helmholtz Association of German Research Centres, delivered a keynote speech on Helmholtz Association’s Perspective of 21st Century Science Policy Challenges.
The workshops, attended by representatives of research conducting and research funding/policy organisations from 14 countries involved in the project, focused on the topic of organisational approaches to RRI, including drivers, barriers and visions for best practices. The two workshops and the plenary sessions provided the participants with an excellent opportunity to discuss the practices of Responsible Research and Innovation in their countries, compare differences and similarities in the national research and innovation systems, and reflect on what RRI is, can and should be.
The workshops were followed by the consortium meeting. In addition to project partners, the advisory board members also attended the meeting. The advisory board provided a very valuable feedback and advice to the consortium. Their insight, together with the input from the workshops, will be taken into consideration during the further work on the project.
Partners presented their progress on the organisational studies, discussed the challenges and exchanged comments and recommendations aimed at optimisation of the process. At the end of the meeting, management and dissemination issues were also discussed.
