ACIT4065 Introduction to Engineering Communication in Global Context

This course is an introduction to the area of global engineering communication. It provides students with an overview of the main histories, theories, practices and methods of engineering communication in global contexts. The main emphasis is given to developing a research-based understanding in students of the importance of communication and communication skills for global engineering work, the typical frameworks and organizational structures used by global companies and organizations to plan, organize, and execute professional communication. Students engage in guided writing and research projects relevant to the topics of the course.  

This course is designed and run in collaboration with Louisiana Tech University. The course will be offered spring semester 2024.

ACIT4075 Introduction to Virtual Teams and Global Engineering Communication Project Management

The course offers students an overview of current theory and practice of working in virtual professional teams, particularly in the contexts of technical fields such as engineering, computer science, and other related areas. The course covers principal frameworks, methods, and practical approaches to forming, participating in, and managing virtual teams for professional activity in those fields. Students will conduct and present guided research of best practices in virtual team management.

ACIT4085 Introduction to Genres of Global Engineering Commuincation

This course is an introduction to the topic of genres in engineering communication. Engineering writing genres are typical kinds of writing and types of documents commonly produced and read by engineers and other technical professionals. The course will emphasize the state-of-the arts research-based understanding of writing genres and functions first and forms second. This means that typical engineering writing genres should be taught as texts that mediate or solve workplace problems. Their typical structures and forms have developed due to their primary functions. Understanding this and being able to match an appropriate form with a purpose will enable students to create effective texts.  

This course is designed and run in collaboration with Louisiana Tech University.  The course will be offered fall semester 2024.

ACIT4095 Structure and Style for Effective Engineering Communication in Global Contexts

The course introduces students to the topics of effectives structure and style in engineering communication. Special emphasis is given to the differences between correct grammar and stylistic choices. Close attention is paid to the kinds of linguistic choices writers need to learn to make in order to create effective, actionable, readable, and ethical texts.

The courses taught spring and fall 2024 courses are offered online.  

The program´s courses are “cross-listed” between OsloMet and Louisiana Tech University. That means the students at each university will sign up for the same courses via their respective university. You will receive credit for completing the courses through your university as well. OsloMet students will earn ECTS credits while Louisiana Tech University students will earn Louisiana Tech University credits.
