Welcome to CEDIC Talks, a webinar series where we invite national and international researchers to hold open guest lectures on social and political consequences of digitization.
Join our guest lecture (webinar) the 24th of August from 14:00 – 15:00 when Ass. Professor Jens Ineland from the University of Umeå and Senior lecturer Camilla Eriksson from Mälardalen University present their findings and perspectives on digitalization in Swedish disability organizations, with legal, moral, and organizational challenges in creating digitally inclusive environments in these organizations.
Abstract
Digitalization is increasingly becoming an integral part of people’s daily life, providing both learning and social opportunities. Given the increasing prevalence of digital technologies, digitalization have also come to play a key role in the field of social work. This presentation touch on the somewhat challenging endeavor of digitalizing welfare organizations supporting people with disabilities. Drawing on new empirical findings from Sweden, we discuss the way digitalization shape work practice and organizational structures in disability organizations. We also address professional challenges when ambitions of stronger agency among people with disabilities through information and communication technology confront vertical governing ideals and existing and sometimes conflicting institutional logics in disability organizations. Although digital presence and online activities are considered both important and inclusive, they may also introduce divides between people with and without disabilities – often related to (lack of) technological, economic and cognitive resources. In conclusion, our presentation address legal, moral, and organizational challenges in creating digitally inclusive environments in these organizations.
The talk will be in English or Swedish.
