The Norwegian Research School on Digitalization, Culture, and Society (DIGIT)
DIGIT is a collaboration between seven Norwegian universities, one research institute, and six partners from the public and private sectors. It is funded by the Research Council of Norway and hosted by the Centre for the Study of Digitalization of Public Services and Citizenship (CEDIC) at Oslo Metropolitan University. DIGIT offers a two-year programme with high academic standards and practical relevance for PhD candidates and postdocs registered at Norwegian universities.
Each year, up to thirty highly qualified PhD candidates and postdoctoral fellows are admitted into the program, with the first class having enrolled in autumn 2022. This annual intake will continue until 2028.
The idea of establishing a Norwegian Research School focused on Digitalization, Culture, and Society arose in response to the digitalization surge following the Covid-19 pandemic in 2020. DIGIT aims to address the fragmentation within Norway’s scientific communities studying digital technologies by fostering dialogue and collaboration among scholars in the humanities, social sciences, and non-academic partners. Through this interdisciplinary approach, DIGIT supports the development of new digital research methods, such as digital ethnography, visual ethnography, digital narratives, and big data analysis.
