Gender, journalism and media

JMIC is involved in equal gender rights within the field of media and journalism:

  • By ensuring good gender balance in all our activities
  • By supporting the publication of “What if” – a handbook on safety for female journalists, now in English and Arabic, and emphasizing particularly the experiences and vulnerabilities of women journalists when it comes to safety.
  • By arranging with partners conferences/workshops exchanging experiences of female journalists and studies by media academics, in Pakistan, Indonesia, Tunisia and Norway with broad international participation

Special issue on gender and journalism education:

  • After the last workshop co-hosted with Universitas Indonesia, a special issue on “Teaching gender in journalism studies” in the “Journalism Education” journal (http://ajeuk.org/tag/journal/ ) is planned to appear in late 2020/early 2021. This will be useful for media academics and journalists.

Call for papers:

  • The journal Journalism Education, issued by the Association of Journalism Education (AJE) invites a special issue on Gender and Journalism Education. We (Gita Bamezai and Elisabeth Eide) invite you all to consider contributing to this issue, which will most likely be published at the end of 2020. Papers may present experiences with theoretical platforms or inspirations, topics and changes of approaches, such as tackling the increasingly important role of social media. Furthermore they may address the relationship between national and international contexts when teaching this issue.

Deadline for abstracts: 15 May.

Deadline for full papers: 1 September Send to: gitabamezai@gmail.com; elisabe@oslomet.no
