Student of climate change
I am Syed Muhammad Saqib, a PhD scholar at the Institute of Communication Studies, University of the Punjab, Pakistan and Assistant Professor at Department of Mass Communications, Forman Christian College Lahore.
I am an international exchange student at the Department of Journalism and Media Studies, Oslo Metropolitan University (OsloMet), Oslo, Norway. I registered myself for the course, ‘Global Warming and Journalism’ because the area for my PhD research is Media and Climate Change. I also aim to design and introduce a specialized course on Climate Communication/Journalism; as there is low climate literacy among journalists of Pakistan and climate journalism, as a subject, is absent as part of our national curriculum. I am sure our journalism students will benefit greatly once this course is offered in Pakistan.
To help me achieve my aims and objectives, Journalism and Media International Center (JMIC) very generously offered me a partial scholarship to cover my living expenses during my stay in Oslo, Norway, for the duration of the course. I am extremely thankful to JMIC for supporting my exchange experience and my initiative of starting a climate journalism course in Pakistan. The team had been great and helpful so far. They have been readily available for guiding me regarding any queries I have, even beyond the scholarship program. I am thankful to JMIC for this opportunity they have given me.
