DOCUMENTING NEPAL’S PANDEMIC RESPONSE

15 Nepalese visual storytellers have been documenting how the COVID-19 pandemic has affected life in their country in “NEPAL 2020 The Year in Pictures – works by 15 photo.circle grantees”.

“How will we remember this unprecedented year? This curated series of visual stories presents the work of 15 visual storytellers based across Nepal who began documenting their communities since the early days of the pandemic”, writes NayanTara Gurung Kakshapati, Director, photo.circle in the introduction.

Mallika Aryal, Project Editor explains: “In early April as the COVID-19 pandemic raged and spread, a group of researchers, storytellers, journalists, chroniclers and photographers came together to form an editorial team that would help understand the pandemic better. We felt the urgency to document these times and we had some questions. What impact will COVID-19 have on us as individuals and as a society? Who and what will we remember from these times?”

The stories have not all been told, and Nepal Photo Project will continue to do so as long as we can. Watch out for more work from Photo Circle 2020 grantees in the next few months on Instagram at @NepalPhotoProject.
