Egyptian photographer 1 Prize
The Egyptian photographer Heba Khamis won first prize in the Contemporary Issues Stories in the 2018 World Press Photo Contest in Amsterdam last week.
Her story Banned Beauty is about the practice of breast ironing of pubescent girls in Cameroon.
She is a storyteller concentrating on social issues. Her images have been published all over the world, also in the Norwegian Klassekampen.
Heba Khamis was one of the 30 photojournalism students who participated in the collaboration between Contemporary Image Collective in Egypt, South Asian Media Institute Pathshala in Bangladesh and what is now OsloMet in 2013.
Ex-student Espen Rasmussen also won a prize – and Katinka Hustad was selected for the 2018 Joop Swart Masterclass.
JMIC staff Jon Petter Evensen was part of the jury of the World Press Photo Contest.
