In the aftermath of the Safety of Journalists conference in Oslo, Jackie Harrison and Sara Torsner from the Centre for Freedom of the Media welcome those who contributed with papers and expertise at the conference to join the Journalist Safety Research Network, by filling out their Google form, as well as join their Facebook group ‘Journalists’ Safety Research Network.
Jackie Harrison and Sara Torsner write:
Dear all,
Following the inspirational Safety of Journalists conference in Oslo we wanted to take this opportunity to invite those of you who aren’t already members of the Journalists’ Safety Research Network (JSRN) to join.
As you might know the JSRN was launched at UNESCO’s research conference on the safety of journalists during the World Press Freedom Day celebrations in Helsinki in 2016 and we currently have around 120 members from universities and research organisations from around the world.
The JSRN focuses on the safety of journalists and the issue of impunity. With the support of UNESCO, the initial host support for the JSRN is being offered by the Centre for Freedom of the Media (CFOM), which is part of the Department of Journalism Studies at the University of Sheffield.
We would very much welcome your expertise to the network and hope that it would also provide fruitful discussion and collaborations for your work. If you would like to join the network please complete the Google form here and please join our Facebook group ‘Journalists’ Safety Research Network’ here.
At CFOM we are currently working on a new website area for the JSRN where we will be able to showcase research and activities within the network. We would like the platform to be a space for members to network, share their work and publications as well as information on upcoming events and conferences. Please do share with us any ideas or suggestions you might have for the continued development of the network!
If you have any questions please do not hesitate to get in touch. We very much look forward to welcoming to the network!
Best wishes,
Jackie Harrison and Sara Torsner
