Guest Researcher in Journalist Safety & Extreme Weather at OsloMet

We are pleased to welcome Dr. Oiane Diaz Echarri, a postdoctoral researcher at the University of the Basque Country (UPV/EHU) in Bilbao, Spain, who will be a Guest researcher with us at OsloMet this semester.

Oiane Diaz Echarri

Oiane specializes inat the intersection of sustainability, climate change, and media. Since 2012, her work has centered on the climate crisis and SDGs, including a PhD thesis on climate change communication. She has an interdisciplinary background with degrees in Technical Architecture (2012) and Building Engineering (2015), a Master’s Degree in Construction Engineering (2016), and a Degree in Journalism (2018) specializing in corporate communication and digital strategies.

With a current emphasis on the safety of journalists covering natural disasters, she participates as an academic expert in the Safety of Journalists platform (Worlds of Journalism cross-national collaborative Project, University of Liverpool). She is also a member of the Bitartez Research Group and the project “Safety conditions of Spanish journalists covering international conflicts (JOSAFCON)”, funded by the Ministry of Science and Universities (Spain) (2022-2026). Her previous experience includes serving as a Lecturer in the Degree in Journalism at the University of the Basque Country (UPV/EHU).

Previous international research experience includes a four-month stay (2023/24) at Háskólinn í Reykjavík (Reykjavík University, Iceland). We are pleased to welcome Oiane as a Guest Researcher at Oslo Metropolitan University (OsloMet) where she will be developing her postdoctoral project on the safety of journalists in the context of extreme weather events.
