Welcome to this seminar 9th February 2026, featuring Yuliia Surkova, a Ukrainian freelance journalist who has reported on Russia’s aggression against Ukraine since 2014.
The seminar is hosted by the research group Media, War and Conflict (MEKK)and Internasjonal Reporter.
The seminar features Yuliia Surkova, a Ukrainian freelance journalist who has reported on Russia’s aggression against Ukraine since 2014 for Ukrainian and international media, including Agence France-Presse (AFP) and UNICEF.
Yuliia focuses on human-interest stories and the humanitarian consequences of the war. She also mentors young journalists through the National Union of Journalists of Ukraine.
- In her recent reporting, Yuliia has covered topics such as:
- Landmine dangers and demining efforts
- The impact of the war on children in frontline settlements
- Ukrainian farmers working near the front line
- Consequences of the destruction of the Kakhovka Dam
- Efforts to rescue animals from frontline areas
- Survival of Kyiv residents during the winter 2026 blackouts caused by Russian aerial strikes on civilian critical infrastructure.
This seminar is organized as part of the project “Shared Frontlines and Democracy: Strengthening Ukraine Expertise and Collaboration in Norwegian Journalism and Education”, funded by the Norwegian Directorate for Higher Education and Skills.
