Peace journalism, 2nd session
The second session on teaching peace journalism was joined by former UN Special Envoy to Afghanistan (2008-2010) Kai Eide. He follows the peace negotiations in Doha closely, and lectured at the initial stage of the negotiations about criteria for peace negotiations to succeed. He emphasized that such negotiations are time consuming, but also expressed some optimism since for the first time, the two main parties actually meet face to face in Doha. A lively discussion followed, with many participants asking pertinent questions. Some were worried that women’s rights might be sacrificed, while others raised questions concerning the release of hundreds of Taliban prisoners.
