Summer with safety training
JMIC staff Marte Hoiby held a journalist safety workshop at Sheffield Hallam University in the UK this summer.
Hoiby’s workshop was about the threats and dangers that journalists often face when covering certain topics, and she focused especially on investigative journalism. In particular she talked about tools to assess the threats associated with various journalistic assignments and methods of mapping ones’ own strenghts and vulnerabilities.
It was a week’s program: Others from a journalist safety-network also contributed, such as Director for Freedom of Expression and Media Development at UNESCO, Guy Berger and Jackie Harrison, Head of department and Professor of Public Communication at Sheffield Hallam University and UNESCO Chair on Media Freedom, Journalism Safety and the Issue of Impunity.
