Recent developments in the war in Ukraine: Different perspectives and prospects, Friday 21 June at 11:00 – 12:30 online

The Norwegian Network for Research on Ukraine (UKRAINETT) are pleased to invite you to a digital seminar with Head of the Hybrid Warfare Analytical Group at the Ukraine Crisis Media Center in Kyiv, Volodymyr Solovian and Senior Research Fellow at the Norwegian Defense Research Establishment, Tor Bukkvoll. The seminar will discuss military and political aspects of the developments in the war in Ukraine including assessments of both the Ukrainian and the Russian side.

The seminar takes place on Zoom on 21 June 2024, 11:00 – 12:30 CEST (Oslo-time).

Dr. Volodymyr Solovian is Head of the Hybrid Warfare Analytical Group at the Ukraine Crisis Media Center in Kyiv. Volodymyr completed a PhD degree in Philosophy at the Taras Shevchenko National University of Kyiv in 2021. He is a specialist in information security, Russian disinformation and Ukrainian defence policy. Previously Volodymyr held the position of analyst at the Ukrainian think-tank NGOs the New Geopolitics Research Network and the Center for Army Conversion and Disarmament Studies.

Among his latest publications are: “The beginning of the Ukrainian offensive: Obstacles and perspectives” (with Mykhailo Samus) at the Jazeera Centre for Studies, 2023; “Ukraine’s Front Line Nuclear Plant: What are the Risks of Russia’s Occupation of the Zaporizhzhia Nuclear Power Plant?” in the Društveni odgovor: naučni časopis, №4. 2023;  “Development of a Possible Mechanism for Exclusion of Russian Federation from the UN Security Council and IAEA” at the Analytical portal of the Centre for International Security, 2023.

Dr. Tor Bukkvoll is a Senior Research Fellow at the Norwegian Defense Research Establishment. He is a specialist in Russian and Ukrainian security and defense policies. Bukkvoll has been a visiting research fellow at the University of Oxford (2008) and the Naval Postgraduate School in Monterey, California (2019-2020). Among his latest publications are: “Private military companies – Russian great power politics on the cheap?” in Small Wars & Insurgencies (1-2) 2022 (with Åse Gilje Østensen) and “War and the Willingness to Resist and Fight in Ukraine” in Problems of Post-Communism (05 Dec 2023) (with Frank Steder).
