For several months now, the Food2Gather research team in Belgium shares the daily life of families in situation of asylum application in a Red Cross reception center (partner of the project). Today, the team proposes you to immerse yourself for one minute in the atmosphere of the canteen of the reception center. How is the commensality organized in the canteen? How does the canteen space participate in the creation of exchanges between the research participants, adults and children? These images were filmed during the pandemic situation related to COVID-19, in respect of health measures (social an physical distancing, wearing of masks and other protective tools). However, these new measures are combined with the institutional hygiene, safety and organization standards of meals, which are already particularly numerous in the canteen. In this context, how do sanitary measures influence social interactions between residents, and between residents and professionals, at mealtimes? The Food2Gather team in Belgium is now trying to answer these questions dealing with tensions or discrepancies existing within the reception center. Thus, we aim at participating in a better understanding of eating habits in context and of food-related social and political issues. We hope to contribute to improve le “vivre ensemble” locally, a kind of way of living together. Atmosphère d’un repas au centre d’accueil pour demandeur d’asile
Depuis plusieurs mois, l’équipe de chercheuses Food2Gather de Belgique partage le quotidien de familles en situation de demande d’asile dans un centre d’accueil Croix-Rouge (partenaire du projet). Aujourd’hui, l’équipe vous propose de vous plonger quelques instants dans l’atmosphère de la cantine du centre d’accueil. Comment s’organise la commensalité à la cantine ? Comment l’espace de la cantine participe-t-il à la création d’échanges entre les participants de la recherche, adultes comme enfants ? Ces images ont été tournées durant la situation pandémique liée à la COVID-19, dans le respect des mesures sanitaires (distanciation physique et sociale, port du masque, et autres outils de protection). Toutefois, ces nouvelles mesures se juxtaposent avec les normes institutionnelles d’hygiène, de sécurité et d’organisation des repas, déjà particulièrement nombreuses à la cantine. Dans ce contexte, comment les mesures sanitaires influencent-elles les interactions sociales entre résidents, et entre résidents et professionnels, au moment des repas ? En Belgique, l’équipe Food2Gather tente aujourd’hui de répondre à ces questionnements, au cœur des tensions ou des décalages existant au sein de l’institution d’accueil, dans l’objectif de participer à une meilleure compréhension des habitudes alimentaires de chacun en contexte et des questions sociales et politiques liées à l’alimentation. Nous espérons ainsi contribuer à améliorer le « vivre-ensemble » localement.
