Kateryna Karhina (in memory of)

Vi lyser fred over hennar minne.

Avhandling.

UKRAINETT is deeply saddened to share the news that our member, Kateryna Karhina, passed away earlier this year. Kateryna joined the University of Bergen in 2021 and demonstrated a strong commitment to encouraging the Norwegian academic community to devote greater attention to Ukraine in the wake of Russia’s full-scale invasion.

Kateryna completed her PhD at Umeå University in 2017 with a dissertation examining the relationship between social capital and well-being during the first phase of Russia’s war against Ukraine. In particular, she studied the efforts of volunteers involved in the war and explored how social capital and gender influenced their experiences of well-being. Her dissertation and other scholarly publications have made important contributions to our understanding of what Russia’s war against Ukraine means for Ukrainians and how Ukrainian society is equipped to withstand the invasion. We honour her memory and extend our deepest condolences to her family, friends, colleagues, and all who knew her.

Dissertation.
