ABOUT

Marthe Handå Myhre is a researcher at the Norwegian Institute for Urban and Regional Research, Oslo Metropolitan University. She holds a Ph.D. in Slavic Studies from the University of Oslo (2018). In her Ph.D. project she studied policies of citizenship acquisition in Russia and the reception in Russia of forced migrants from Ukraine who fled there after war broke out in Donbas in 2014. From 2018 to 2021 Marthe was part of the research project Accommodation of Regional Diversity in Ukraine (ARDU). Since 2022 she has been and is involved in several projects related to the integration of Ukrainian refugees in Norway and Nordic countries.

Marthe’s research interests include, but are not limited to, nation-building, nationalism, migration, and citizenship in Ukraine, Russia, and the post-Soviet space. In her research she employs a range of qualitative methods, including media discourse analysis, focus groups, and individual interviews. She is also working with mixed methods in close collaboration with colleagues who have expertise in quantitative approaches. Marthe has been part of the coordinating team of UKRAINETT since the network was founded.
