The Institute for Social Research (ISF) and the Norwegian Network for Research on Ukraine (UKRAINETT) will host a seminar on 14 January 2026, from 08:30 to 10:15, focusing on the European Social Survey (ESS).
ESS is a large, researcher-driven cross-national survey that collects data on Europeans’ attitudes, opinions, and behaviors every two years, providing comparable data for over 30 European countries. It focuses on themes such as politics, society, values, and living conditions.
The survey is perhaps the most important comparative social science survey we have, offering an invaluable basis for studying changes and stability in European societies over time.
The seminar will cover both how the survey was conducted in Ukraine in 2022 and how it will be carried out in 2026. The country faces major challenges after nearly four years of large-scale war, carrying multifaceted implications for researchers. Representatives from Ukraine will share insights on data collection and the choice of methodological approaches.
Address: Institute for Social Research, Munthes gate 31, Oslo
The event will be streamed, and is free and open to everyone. See the event website for more details.
