Abstract: This short conference paper investigates the optimization of Demand Controlled Ventilation (DCV) systems for energy efficiency in commercial buildings. It outlines the challenges in achieving the theoretical energy savings promised by DCV due to issues like inadequate specifications and the lack of clear responsibility for system functionality. By comparing different DCV systems—Pressure Controlled, Static Pressure Reset, and Variable Supply Air Diffuser—the study provides recommendations for enhancing DCV functionality. These include requirements for Specific Fan Power (SFP) control across various airflow rates and the importance of comprehensive specifications and system reviews. The findings aim to guide the procurement of DCV systems that meet optimal energy performance standards, emphasizing the need for clear contractual responsibilities and accurate system monitoring.
