What do we really know about how people in Ukraine and Russia think about the war, the authorities, and the prospects for a possible peace agreement?
On 4 June, the Ukraine Program and the Full Spectrum Threats program at the Norwegian Institute for Defence Studies (IFS) invite you to a breakfast seminar at Litteraturhuset (Oslo) on this topic. The seminar will take a closer look at public opinion and survey data in both Ukraine and Russia. We will ask what the numbers can tell us, what remains uncertain, and how the figures can be interpreted when they are collected under challenging conditions: in Russia, opinion formation is shaped by repression and control; in Ukraine, the war causes major disruptions to daily life. Under such conditions, how can we obtain an accurate picture of public attitudes?
WHERE: Litteraturhuset, Skram (Oslo)
WHEN: 08:30 – 11:15, 4 June 2026
The speakers are Tymofii Brik, Professor and Rector at the Kyiv School of Economics, and Kirill Rogov, Founder and Director of Re: Russia (Vienna). Their presentations will be followed by a discussion moderated by Guri Tyldum, Research Professor at Fafo. Coffee and a light breakfast will be served. The seminar will be held in English.
