Democracy under war and reconstruction: A theoretical framework for democratic resilience in Ukraine

A new OsloMet project, led by researchers at NIBR, has received funding to investigate how democracy is affected by war and a future reconstruction phase in Ukraine.

The project “Democracy under War and Reconstruction: A Theoretical Framework for Democratic Resilience in Ukraine” brings together researchers from OsloMet to examine how democratic institutions and practices are maintained, challenged and transformed during war and post-war reconstruction. Drawing on ongoing research in local governance, labour relations, journalism and education, the project seeks to identify common mechanisms shaping democratic resilience across different sectors of Ukrainian society. The project will develop an interdisciplinary analytical framework, produce academic and policy-oriented outputs, and lay the foundation for a larger externally funded research project.
