The digital game developed by Logic interactive for the Homerisk exhibition at Norwegian Science Museum was presented at Forskningsdagene, Universitetsplassen, Oslo, 20th-21st of September. 2018. The game tests how fast you can remember where to find things you need during an electricity outage. New record was set at 4 Seconds!

The stand was a Collaboration between OsloMet (Institute of Pre-school education, Institute of Socia Welfare and SIFO), Norwegian Science Museum and No Isolation.

In August 2018, SIFO-researcher Harald Throne-Holst presented results from the HOMERISK project at the ESA conference in Copenhagen. His presentation focused on how the public are given and take on different roles when dealing with electricity and ICT infrastructure. We find that for electricity, the citizen role is prominent, while for ICT, the public take on a consumer role.

Do you know how to prepare for an extensive electricity and ICT breakdown? This was the topic in OsloMet’s podkast ‘Viten og snakkis’ in July 2018, where Ardis Storm-Mathisen and Nina Heidenstrøm talked about the findings from HOMERISK.

Dag Slettemeås and Ardis Storm-Mathisen argue in a  newspaper chronicle june 18th 2018 there is a lack of knowledge and routines on how to secure  coordinated mobilisation of household resources in situations of electricity and ICT outages. You can read the full chronicle here.

The Homerisk Project arranged its end seminar Thursday june 14th at The Norwegian Museum of Science and Technology.

Among the presenters were our partners Linda Kvarnlöf and Erika Wall from MidSweden University, Björn Karlsson from University of Iceland and Jan Alfred Anderson from The Norwegian Museum of Science and Technology.

Ivar Knai from the SAMRISK II program comittee and DSB gave a comment  and stakeholders from Oslo municipality as well as from fire and police force departments engaged in discussions of how to further activate citizens in preparedness work.

A New interactive Exhibition is under Construction at the Norwegian Museum of Science and Technology!

The Exhibition ‘Electricity-outage, are you prepared?’ is an outcome of the HOMERISK Project and will open at the Norwegian Museum of Science and Technology Thursday June 14th at 11 am.

Come to the HOMERISK end-seminar ‘Are Nordic households prepared for  electricity outage?’ at Norwegian Museum of Science and Technology Thursday June 14th from 9am to learn more about digital vulnerabilities, consumption and household’s preparedness for power outages. The Nordic research-team will then present findings from the HOMERISK project and discuss them with other interested actors. You can test Your own preparedness by engaging in the interactive activities of the Exhibition  at the end of the seminar.

The Homerisk Project is financed by The Research Council of Norway, SAMRISK II. 

In May 2018, PhD student Nina Heidenstrøm visisted the Danish Building Research Insitute at Aalborg University.

Here, she presented the HOMERISK project at a faculty seminar. Here, she focused on the practice theory approach in her dissertation, along with the ethnographic methods as the slide below demonstrates.

Homerisk will be presenting two full papers at The Northern European Concerence on Emergency and Disaster Studies (NEEDS) to be held in Amsterdam 21-23March 2018:

• Linda Kvarnlöf & Erika Wall: Stories of the storm: How sense-making of household crisis preparedness is framed by an urban norm.
• Linda Kvarnlöf & Joanna Persson: Resilience and governmentality: the ideal of the resilient subject.

Friday October 27th, Nina Heidenstrøm presented the HOMERISK project at the Norwegian Research Council’s end conference for the SAMRISK II program. Her presentation can be downloaded here.

The fieldwork conducted on household preparedness in Oslo is now completed. The SIFO team has visited 10 households in Oslo to understand how urban households prepare for electricity and ICT infrastructure breakdowns. We visited households in different age groups, and families living in dwellings with and without alternative heating systems.
